Healthcare Training in Malawi

Links International is delighted to partner with esg to deliver Healthcare Training in Malawi. Links has seen hundreds of communities around the globe transformed through training and empowering community influencers.

Links’ training programme is relational and modular and only begins once a needs assessment has been completed as issues and needs vary across communities and countries. Training is open to the whole community, but a core team of community influencers, committed to ongoing training, are selected as potential voluntary health care workers. Links works with this team to help them discover how they can bring positive change to key issues facing their community.

The results have been inspiring. During the first visit to a community in Uganda, Links asked the question – how many children under five have died as a result of simple diarrhoea? The answer? Too many to count. As a result Links delivered basic hygiene and sanitation training and linked it to a practical project – building pit latrines. The second visit and subsequent training took place on the community rubbish dump, so it wasn’t surprising that the needs assessment listed rubbish and disease as key issues and, the great news? Only 35 children under five had died from simple diarrhoea since the last visit. On the third visit it was overwhelming to see healthy crops growing where the rubbish dump had previously been and to discover that not even one child had died as a result of simple diarrhoea!

esg’s generosity and partnership will make a lasting impact and transform five communities and countless lives in Malawi through healthcare training.
