Malawi update October 2009

This was the first Links International Malawi Healthcare Training. The team worked with key community influencers, village chiefs, pastors, teachers, healthcare professionals, and mothers and fathers, gathered in four locations, representing over 50 communities.

Malawi is a very poor country. Water and sanitation is fundamental for a healthy life, yet thousands of families cannot safely access these essentials.  It is not surprising that the infant mortality rate in Malawi is high and that the average life span is only 45 years.

esg’s investment means that, once the final trip has been completed, these communities will not only be healthier but also resourced and empowered to independently develop healthcare in their own communities and in others.

Pastor Steven Chisale said of the training:
‘It has provoked our mind set that says ‘There is nothing we can do about this...’. It was so exciting to discover that we have the answers to solve the problems we face in our communities. Thank you so much, may God bless you.’

We’re excited because more than 50 communities in Malawi have begun the journey of transformation. Thanks to esg, we’ll return in April 2010 to keep the momentum and training going.
