Playwork

The QCF Level 2 playwork qualification is designed for playworkers, before and after school care workers and holiday club workers. It covers supporting and protecting children, contributing in a team, dealing with accidents and emergencies and health and safety in a playwork setting.

Prior to joining the course, you have an interview where an initial assessment is carried out to determine the correct level for you. You can start training with without having gained previous qualifications, or previous course of study.

Playworkers work with school age children (4-16) and plan activities and play opportunities to help them develop.

Course content

There are six mandatory units and two optional units. These are some of the units you would cover:

  • Contribute to the positive relationships in the play settings
  • Support children and young people's play
  • Contribute to health and safety of the play environment
  • Contribute to the work of your team
  • Deal with accidents and emergencies
  • Support the protection of children from abuse.

Why choose this course?

The new QCF in playwork will benefit both you and the organisation where you work. QCFs also raise the quality of service provided by childcare staff. All the skills are recognised and measured against national standards.

QCF learners are assessed on their performance in the work setting by qualified assessors from esg.

Learners may also be required to attend training sessions delivered by esg. This will give the relevant underpinning knowledge and understanding in playwork.
