A few weeks ago esg. launched its flagship esg. hair academy near Sheffield city centre. The academy gives local budding hairdressers and barbers the opportunity to get experience and qualifications they need to help them succeed in their careers.
The salon has had great success so far, as esg.’s operations director, Liam Doyle, can vouch for, having visited the hair academy himself for a short back and sides. He was very pleased with the results and said: “It’s the best haircut I've ever had! I was blown away by the high level of knowledge the trainers and learners had on current styles and the technicalities of all things hair”.
Gavin Freed, esg.’s chief executive also paid a visit to the academy and commented: “The academy is a credit to our people who’ve worked hard to get it up and running. I’ll definitely be back in a few weeks for another trim!”
It’s a fully operational centre of excellence in hairdressing, giving young people interested in the trade the chance to get some real hands on experience. And it also offers local people a low cost but high quality service, with all junior stylists learning and practicing their new skills under the supervision and guidance of qualified professionals and trainers.
esg. works in partnership with Styletech, a hairdressing recruitment service started by Sheffield-based Paul Hood, an award-winning hairdresser and salon owner he is an Artistic Trainer at Wahl. Together they have organised a number of exciting training days in early 2011, with celebrity hairdressers Lee Stafford and Anne Veck on board.
Amber Massey, hairdressing curriculum manager at esg. said: “It’s hard enough for young people to find jobs or employers willing to offer them apprenticeships in the current economic climate. For the young people that we work with, gaining practical experience is the key to securing giving them a chance at a better future.”
Every hair apprentice who enrols onto esg.’s courses is guaranteed six weeks in the academy to get to know the industry, gaining experience of the day to day running of a salon, some money in their pocket and they can walk away with an NVQ Level 2 which is a very useful addition to their CV.
esg’s youth recruitment officer, Elouise Smith, added: “Our apprentices need customers, so if you live in the Sheffield city area, and want to show your support visit our academy for a fantastic and great value cut and blow or colour. Let’s help it go from strength to strength.”
Our hair academy can be found at 27 Mowbray St, Sheffield, S3 8EL.
