The Employability and Skills Group (esg.) is delighted to have been named as preferred bidder to provide the Mandatory Work Activity contract for the Department for Work and Pensions in the West Midlands.
This will see the group working with local sub-contractor partners to help long-term unemployed customers to find activities and tasks to undertake similar to those they might experience in a normal working environment. A critical part of the delivery will be successfully working closely with local employers and organisations to deliver placements that are suitable for people who have been unemployed for some time, address their barriers to work, enhance employability and work-related skills and increase their chances of securing employment.
Speaking about the contract win, Brian Walsh, Regional Development Manager for esg. in the Midlands said: “We’ll really make a difference to people who have no recent job experience and need the opportunity to work as part of a team. The majority of our customers on this programme will have been unemployed for many years, and are likely to need help to develop greater confidence and interpersonal skills, or they may have a history of timekeeping difficulties. We can help them turn these issues around, while adding to their CV at the same time.”
The contract, which starts in May, is worth £4m over four years and it is envisaged that it will help around 10,000 people each year.
